The Experience:

Our dear old friend Mr. Hemingway filled the pages to some classics like The Old Man and the Sea during his time in Cuba but he also filled the gaps for our imagination of a place he called his tropical paradise and left us all itching to explore for ourselves. We decided to pay homage to the man that first gave us a picture of the Cuba we love to portray today, 1950s cars zipping around, pastel buildings lining the streets and the sounds of habaneros and the soulful sounds that line the streets with music that tells a deep routed story and unimaginable journey.

Hemingway was a man loved by the Cuban people. He’s an example of the kind of  immersion travel, stretching across social constructs and hitting the heart and soul of a person. While his name often comes up in conversation roaming through Cuba, there is far more to the story. There are hints of Hemingway lined throughout the country, if only you know the right places to look and the right people to speak to. Lucky for Ernest fans, we do.

Spend a day retracing the icon’s steps through off the beaten path neighbourhoods and discreet private homes. Teamed with one of Havana’s best photographers, you are sure to capture some of the finest moments to add to your collection of Cuba.

Have you ever imagined a place and had this picture in your mind; what the people are like, how the food tastes, what kind of climate it has, what kind of scenery? Now think about where that notion or idea came from. Where did you get the information to fill in the blanks about a place you have never been to? Was it through researching on the internet? Or maybe it was from a picture you saw somewhere of that place and it wedged itself in the deep corners of your mind planting a seed of curiosity and wonder. Maybe you heard about it through word of mouth and built this image around someone’s recollection.

Well before recent years access to the largest island in the Caribbean was limited and we were left to imagine what Cuban culture and life was like through the eyes of people who had exclusive access like Ernest Hemingway. The white sandy beaches, green scenery that extends from coast to valleys to mountains, the reputation of a Cuban cigar, the whispers about Cuban hospitality and the infamous rum that follows the hospitality
