The Experience:

They say our gut is our second brain. That it’s lined with more neurons than our spinal cord and is connected directly to our intuition, our higher mind. Maybe that’s why a home cooked meal always feels like so much more than just food, we feel a sense of euphoria and sometimes nostalgia that envelopes us as we satisfy our stomachs. No matter how familiar a place becomes for us, there is no feeling like home and nothing makes the heart feel at home like mama’s cooking.

Take the chance to experience a home cooked meal from a different lens. Spend the day cooking with a local mother in her home as she prepares a 3 course meal for her family. Learn the traditions, the array of different spices, share stories and tales and finally sit down to enjoy a delicious meal made with love.

Indian cuisine is as reflective of its history more than any other country perhaps. Over 5,000 years a multitude of people, cultures and religions have flocked to this land and settled in various regions each depicting their own unique identity through its food.

In fact if you went to India and said you’d like to experience “Indian food” you’d probably get funny looks and maybe a few laughs It is a place so diverse even within its regions the food has its own unique flavours reflecting a certain culture. Hindus practice a vegetarian culture while Muslims marinate meats in a myriad of ways like curries, kaftas (meatballs), and biryanis (meat with rice). In the southern regions soups and rice are popular, with dishes like Rasam (thin soup), Dosa (rice pancakes), and Idli (steamed rice cakes).

The regions you travel to in India reflect the people who have settled there throughout history and the flavours they have left behind. As uniquely diverse as the flavours are in India, one thing unites them and that is their intention to bring joy and happiness to the people who taste them.
